These lessons explore the dynamic relationship between art and society and how artists seek to influence society through their craft. After working through these lessons students will be able to identify and note the impact of efforts to portray Grand Canyon in photography and painting, assess the contribution the art of Grand Canyon has had on the nation, and evaluate how the art depicting Grand Canyon can be a lens through which American culture and history can be understood. Portions of these materials may be used for a single class period, or all of the materials may be used, covering three or more class periods.
